Mount Dandenong, Victoria

(Redirected from Mount Dandenong)

Mount Dandenong is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Yarra Ranges.

Mount Dandenong is also a mountain which is 693 metres tall, on which the suburb is located.

There is a lookout where people can eat and look out from the mountain toward Melbourne, where the CBD is usually visible.

Attractions include parks, forests, an arboretum and many restaurants such as the recently reopened Sky High Restaurant. Located at Mount Dandenong Observatory, it recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation after it closed soon after bushfires in 1997. It is probably the biggest tourist attraction of Mt Dandenong.

The peak of the mountain is also the site of the city's TV signal towers, which are visible from quite a distance and distinguish Mount Dandenong from others in the Dandenong Ranges.

Around 2002 it was proposed that the word "Melbourne" be erected in large letters at the peak of the Mountain in the style of the Hollywood, visible from the city centre. However this was met with outrage from local residents and was not pursued.
