Mujik
(Redirected from Moujik)
Mujik refers to a Russian peasant, usually before 1917.
It connotes a certain degree of poverty, as most mujiks were serfs before the 1861 agricultural reforms. After that date, serfs were given parcels to work the land, and became free peasants.
These free peasants were then known (up until 1917) as mujiks.
