Moses Alshich
Rabbi Moses ben (son of) Chaim Alshich (1508-1593), known as the Alshich, was a Medieval Rabbi and biblical commentator.
The Alshich was born in 1508 in Turkey. He later moved to Safed, Israel where he became a student of Rabbi Joseph Karo. In an attempt to reinstate the practice, he allegedly was one of the men who received true semicha (Rabbinical Ordination) and became a member of a new Sanhedrin.
He authored a commentary on the Torah and the Prophets which is still studied today.
His students included Rabbi Chaim Vital and Rabbi Yom Tov Tzahalon. He passed away in Safed in 1593.
