Mobile Analytic Laboratory Probe

A MALP is a fictional device in the sci-fi Stargate universe.

MALP stands for Mobile Analytic Laboratory Probe. A MALP is routinely sent through a stargate by the SGC to determine if a planet's environmental conditions are safe before sending an SG team.

The MALP's other main function is to visually inspect the area immediately surrounding the Stargate, to check for enemy troops or a functioning DHD, for example.

Special Abilities

MALPs have a few additional abilities besides basic visual observation. They have an infrared scanning mode. They can also transmit audio between the MALPs and the SGC through an open stargate.
