Heckler und Koch Mark 23 Mod 0

(Redirected from Mk 23)
The MK23 USSOCOM

The Heckler & Koch Mark 23 Mod 0 is a match grade pistol chambered in .45 ACP caliber, built by Heckler und Koch as an "offensive" handgun for the U.S. Special Operations Command, requested around August, 1991. Due to its design intentions, it is also called SOCOM; MK23 USSOCOM is engraved on the barrel. It uses a hexagonal barrel design, which is reported to improve accuracy and barrel life. All guns have a threaded barrel and railings for a suppressor and laser aiming module (LAM). One version of the LAM produces a visible light dot while another produces infra-red, which can only be seen if wearing a night vision goggles. The gun uses an ambidextrous safety and magazine release and significantly longer trigger guard for use with gloves. It is based on the HK USP design, upgraded to resist the hostile conditions which the gun is designed to be operated in. The weapon's large size and weight have resulted in some criticism, in response to which the HK USP Tactical was developed. The weapon is 23 cm long, and measures over a foot long when fitted with a suppressor.
