Mixture

This article is about mixtures in chemistry. For the mixture stops of a pipe organ, see mixture (music).

A mixture is a heterogeneous association of substances composed of elements and/or compounds mixed together without chemical bonding in varying proportions that retain their own individual properties and makeup. Mixtures can usually be separated by mechanical means. The substances remain chemically distinct.

Properties of a mixture

There are no chemical changes in a mixture, therefore, each substance in a mixture keeps the same chemical properties and makeup as before. In some mixtures, you can clearly see the components, like a pizza. In others, like saltwater, you can not identify the components.
