Mircea Snegur

Mircea Ion Snegur (b. 1940) is a former President of Moldova. In the Soviet era, his name was Mircha Ivanovich Snegur.

Career

Member of the Communist Party 1964-90.

• 1967-71 – worked as agronomist, manager of state and collective farms.
• 1971-78 – with the Ministry of Agriculture.
• 1978-81 – Director General of the Research Production Association "Selektsiya", Kishinev.
• 1981-85 – Secretary of the Communist Party committee of Yedinetskiy district.
• 1985-89 – Secretary in the Central Committee of the CP of Moldavia.
• 1989-90 – Chairman of the Presidium of Supreme Soviet of Moldavia.
• 1990(Apr-Sep) – Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Moldavia.
• 1990-96 – President of independent Moldova.
