Michael Zucchet
Michael Zucchet is a third-generation San Diegan and is a current San Diego City Councilmember elected in November 2002 to represent the city's Second District.
Currently Councilmember Zucchet serves as the Deputy Mayor and is a member of two Council committees: Rules, Finance, and Intergovernmental Relations and Public Safety and Neighborhood Services. He is also the Chair of the North Embarcadero Joint Powers Authority, a participant in the City's Clean Water Task Force and is an appointed member of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Board.
Councilmember Zucchet earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Economics and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also has a Master's degree in Environmental Economics and Policy from Duke University.
Councilmember Zucchet previously worked as a renewable energy economist with the United States Department of Energy in Washington, DC before returning to San Diego in 1996 to work as a City Council aide to Councilmember Valerie Stallings. Then from 1998 through 2002, he served as the legislative and community affairs director for the San Diego City Fire Fighters.
Councilmember Zucchet has also done work with the non-profit Environmental Defense Center in Santa Barbara while in college. He has also served as president of the San Diego League of Conservation Voters, vice president of the Pacific Beach Town Council, elected member of the Pacific Beach Community Planning Committee, and appointed member of the city's Select Committee on Government Efficiency and Fiscal Reform. Mike is also a graduate of LEAD San Diego.
City of San Diego District Two is comprised of the heart of San Diego and includes the communities of Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Point Loma, Old Town, Mission Hills, Park West, Bankers Hill, Cortez Hill, Little Italy, Downtown, and portions of La Jolla and Uptown.
