Miami Valley (Ohio)
The Miami Valley collectively refers to the Great Miami River and its surrounding territory in southwest Ohio. The river and associated valley are named for the Miami, an Algonquin-speaking Native American people who lived in the region during the early days of white settlement. Cities in the Miami Valley include Dayton, Ohio, Middletown, Ohio, and Hamilton, Ohio.
The term is widely used to describe the TV and radio markets of Dayton, Ohio. Middletown and Hamilton both fall under the influence of Cincinnati and thus, do not commonly use the term in the cultural sense. The names Miami Valley Career Technology Center, Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Council (Boy Scouts of America), as well as Upper Valley Medical Center (Troy) show local usage.
