Parking attendant
(Redirected from Meter maid)
A parking attendant vehicle in San Francisco
A parking attendant is a member of a traffic control deparment or organization who issues tickets for parking violations. They are sometimes known as traffic wardens and meter maids, a gender specific term for female attendants.
In pop culture, the term is best known for the Beatles' song Lovely Rita, Meter Maid, in which the male singer, smitten with Rita, recalls:
- Standing by a parking meter, when I caught a glimpse of Rita
- Filling in a ticket in her little white book.
- In a cap she looked much older,
- And the bag across her shoulder
- Made her look a little like a military man.
