Mayo (constituency)
The Mayo parliamentary constituency spans the entire area of the county in Connacht, taking in Castlebar, Westport and Ballina. The constituency has an electorate of 94,854 and at present is served by 5 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is the Single Transferable Vote.
Presently, the leader of Fine Gael, Enda Kenny is one of the most high profile TDs from the constituency. Beverley Cooper Flynn, who was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD, has since been expelled from the Parliamentary Party. In effect this means that she is an Independent TD but still votes in favour of Fianna Fáil. Her father, Pádraig Flynn, served the constituency for over twenty-five years before his retirement from domestic politics.
