Mavado
Mavado is a character in the Mortal Kombat video game franchise.
About Mavado
Mavado is unmistakably evil. In many respects however, he embodies the underworld antipode of Kano, by being everything he is not. Mavado is a disciplined, slick and silent warrior, not a pub brawler. He relies on stealth and only fights when needed, whereas Kano is a loud-mouthed aggressor. Even in their appearance, they could not be more apart. Whereas Kano is a bit deformed, gruff and dirty, Mavado is clean and handsome. It is no surprise then that this long-coated warrior is the leader of the Red Dragon, an ancient criminal organisation that only its own members know and that its most important rivals are the Black Dragon to which Kano belongs. The Black Dragon split off from them about a century ago. However, in one thing, Mavado and his arch enemy are clearly the same: they are both vicious, pitiless and cruel crime lords.
Storyline
Mavado begins his journey in the Mortal Kombat universe covertly. Since the Red Dragon's top priority is the extermination of the Black Dragon, and the Red Dragon wishes not to make itself known to the rest of the world, what tool could have been more useful than the Special Forces, to do the job for them? Towards that end, it was that Mavado's direct subordinate, Hsu Hao, infiltrated within the Outer World Investigation Agency and helped them in tracking down and killing the last members of the Black Dragon.
After the events of Mortal Kombat 4, with Jarek killed by Sonya Blade, and Kabal presumably killed by Mavado himself, Hsu Hao's task was deemed over. However, Mavado was then contacted by the Deadly Alliance. Both sorcerers saw in the Red Dragon a great potential ally for their eventual domination of Earthrealm. Mavado was hired to fend off Kenshi, while in return he got the honour of facing off with Kano, who had actually been considered dead until that time. Mavado then instructed Hsu Hao to destroy the Outer World Investigation Agency's underground portal facility, shortly before travelling to Outworld himself.
During the events of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mavado complied: he defeated Kenshi and then finally killed his arch-rival Kano. The Black Dragon was dead. In Mortal Kombat: Deception, Kabal returns and kills Mavado to reform the Black Dragon, reclaiming his trademark hookswords from Mavado in the process.
Misc stuff
Mavado's name was originally going to be Malvado, which means "evil" in Spanish.
