Maryon Pittman Allen

Maryon Pittman Allen (born November 30, 1925) was a United States Senator from Alabama. In 1978, she was appointed Senator as a Democrat by Governor George Wallace to succeed her late husband, James Allen. She ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in the election to fill out the rest of the term in 1978, and was defeated by Donald W. Stewart, who went on to win the election. She served from June 8 to November 7 1978. After the end of her brief service in the Senate, Allen served for a time as a columnist for the Washington Post.
