Wallenberg family

The Wallenberg family is one of the most influential and wealthy families in Sweden, renowned as bankers and industrialists.

• Jacob Wallenberg (1746–1778), sailor, clergyman and author with burlesque interests, particularly for women. Author of "Min Son på Galejan". Jacob was born Wallberg and changed his name to Wallenberg.

• Marcus Wallenberg (1774–1833), nephew of Jacob Wallenberg, bishop in Linköping.

• Oscar Wallenberg (1816–1886), son of Marcus Wallenberg, naval officer, newspaper tycoon, and politician, visited the United States in 1837 and became interested in banking. Founder of Stockholms Enskilda Bank in 1856, the predecessor of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, that constitutes the basis for the family's economic influence.

• Knut Wallenberg (1853–1938), son of Oscar Wallenberg, banker and politician, founder of Stockholm School of Economics (1909), Banque des pays du Nord (1911), and British bank of Northern commerce (1912) that in 1921 was merged with Hambros Bank. Through Knut Wallenberg's investments in LKAB, the ownership of the North-Swedish iron ore mines was kept in Swedish hands. Knut Wallenberg was Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs 1914–1917.

• Gustaf Wallenberg (1863–1937), son of Oscar Wallenberg, diplomat, envoyé in Tokyo, Constantinople, and Sofia.

• Marcus Wallenberg (senior) (1864–1943), son of Oscar Wallenberg, industrialist and banker. Marcus Wallenberg was engaged in the following companies of particular importance: ASEA, Ericsson, Papyrus AB, Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag, and Skandia. From 1916 and on took Marcus Wallenberg also part in bilateral and multilateral international diplomacy and arbitration; most notably to broke a crucial trade agreements 1916–1918 between the United Kingdom and Sweden.

• Axel Wallenberg (1874–1963), son of Oscar Wallenberg, industrialist and diplomat, envoyé i Washington 1921–1926.

• Raoul Oscar Wallenberg (1888–1911), son of Gustaf Wallenberg, naval officer. (Died of cancer three months before the birth of his son Raoul).

• Jacob Wallenberg (senior) (1892–1980), son of Marcus Wallenberg (senior), naval officer, banker, industrialist, and diplomat. After the Nazi Party Machtübernahme Jacob Wallenberg participated in the trade negotiations the new German régime required. During World War II, he played a central role in the almost perpetual trade negotiations with Nazi Germany. Controlled the Wallenberg empire together with his brother Marcus.

• Marcus Wallenberg (junior) (1899–1982), son of Marcus Wallenberg (senior), industrialist, banker and diplomat, who played a crucial role in the negotiations on Swedish–British trade agreements during World War II. Controlled the Wallenberg empire together with his brother Jacob until the time of his death.

• Gustaf Wally (1905–1966), son of Axel Wallenberg, dancer, actor and theatre manager.

• Raoul Wallenberg (1912– ? ), son of Raoul Oscar Wallenberg, stepson of Fredrik von Dardel, diplomat, acclaimed for his role in saving a great number of Jews during the Holocaust in Hungary.

• Marc Wallenberg (1924–1971), son of Marcus Wallenberg, banker, industrialist.

• Peter Wallenberg (senior) (1926– ), son of Marcus Wallenberg (junior), banker and industrialist. Succeeded his father in 1982 as leader of the Wallenberg Sphere.

• Jacob Wallenberg (1956– ), son of Peter Wallenberg, proposed as new chairman of Investor AB and in 2005 expected to step back from the board of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, that he has chaired since 1997.

• Marcus Wallenberg (1956– ), son of Marc Wallenberg, CEO of Investor AB, expected to succeed Jacob Wallenberg as chairman for Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken. He is a 1980 graduate of the distinguished Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in the United States.

• Peter Wallenberg (junior) (1959– ), son of Peter Wallenberg (senior).
