Maranos

The Maranos was a Jewish secret fraternity which arose in Spain in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries during the persecution of the Jewish minority in that country. The members would meet in secret at inns, disguised, and used grips, signs and passwords for recognizing fellow members.
