Marangoni-Effect
The Marangoni-Effect is the mass transfer on, or in, a liquid layer due to surface tension differences.
It was first found in case of two liquids with different surface tension by J. Thompson in 1855. C. Marangoni then correctly described Thompson's experimental results as the effect of surface tension in 1871.
One result of the Marangoni-effect are convection cells, the so-called Bénard-cells.
