Manar Maged
Manar Maged was born with a parasitic twin attached to her head. In a case like Rebeca Martinez she underwent surgery to remove the twin head which was attached tangentially to the left side of her body. The surgery took place in Benha, Egypt on February 19, 2005 when Manar was 10 months old.
Manar was born with a rare condition called craniopagus parasiticus, a type of conjoined twin. Coinjoining occurs when an embryo begins to split into two but fails to complete the process. In craniopagus, the twins remain attached at the head. Parasiticus occurs when one of the twins fails to develop completely in the womb and becomes completely dependent upon the other.
The twin head developed no body but the face and head were far more developed than that of Rebeca Martinez. The underdeveloped twin was able to blink and smile but was completely dependent upon Manar for her existence.
