The genus Mammea is a taxon of the family Clusiaceae, comprising trees that all have edible one-seeded fruits.
Distribution and habitat
One Mammea species (Mammea americana) is found in tropical America and the West Indies, one species in tropical Africa, 20 in Madagascar and 27 in Indomalaysia and the Pacific region.
Caracteristics
Flowers are polygamous, with globular calyx opening into 2 valvate sepals. There are 4 to 6 petals. The plants have axillary peduncles. Indehiscent drupes are formed, containing 1 to 4 seeds. The leaves are rigid, coriaceous and often have pellucid dots.
