Maasti Venkatesh Ayengar

Maasti Venkatesh Ayengar (June 6 1891 – June 6 1986) was a famous Kannada writer, and a Jnanpith (1983) awardee. Maasti Kannadada Aasti meaning Maasti is Kannada's Treasure is how he is treasured by Kannadigas. He is most renowned for his beautifully written short stories. His other works include historical novels such as Chikkaveera Rajendra and Channabasava Nayaka. He wrote under the pen name Srinivasa.

Born in Kolar District of Karnataka, He secured an Master of Arts in 1914 with a brilliant academic career, and entered the Indian Civil Service. After working in various capacities including District Commissioner he retired in 1943.
