MOS
Mos is the singluar form of the more commonly used plural noun Mores.
The acronym MOS may mean several things, depending on context:
- Media Object Server – XML protocol for television system automation.
- Mos Burger – an upper class hamburger restaurant chain in Japan.
- Military Occupational Specialty – milspeak for one's job in the armed forces. See Military Occupational Specialty
- Mobile Operating System – a Soviet clone of Unix. See MOS (operating system).
- Maintenance Operating System – See maintenance OS.
- Member of the Opposite Sex.
- MOS Technology – now defunct electronics company owned by Commodore International.
- Metal Oxide Semiconductor – see MOSFET (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor).
- Mit Out Sound or Mit Out Sprache cameras – MOS is a designation used on clapper boards to denote that no sound is being recorded in sync with the film. MOS cameras are film cameras without crystal-pulse capability, which is required to maintain a constant speed for sync sound. (Some British cinematographers maintain that "MOS" actually stands for "Motion Omit Sound." Some others say it stands for "Minus Optical Sound".)
