M.I.D.A.S.
The story of Front Mission 3 revolves around an Experimental Device codenamed "M.I.D.A.S." It was Designed by Emir Klamsky, Head of the USN Special Radiation Laboratories.

M.I.D.A.S. (Matter Irradiation Dissociative Acceleration System)
A device using Auric Radiation to create Energy. Able to separate the positrons, neutrons, and electrons in Auric Radiation to extract Energy. Auric Radiation has vast kinetic energy and breaks the molecular bonds of anything in its path. On contact with water molecules in the air, Auric Radiation turns into a stable element, loses all energy, and poses no threat to organisms of the environment.
M.I.D.A.S. as a Weapon
M.I.D.A.S. has potential as a new Energy Source. The Military potential is outlined below.
1. Energy Capacity: Current Models are less effective than Nuclear Weapons, but more effective models can be made.
2. Reduced Costs: The Weapons Output is adjustable. Separate Tactical and Strategic Weapons are not needed, resulting in lower costs.
3. Deterrence Factor: The Auric Radiation used in M.I.D.A.S. is stable once it fuses with water; therfore it does not cause contamination. Nuclear Weapons only have Deterrent Value, while M.I.D.A.S. can be used as a Conventional Weapon with the Power of a Nuclear Weapon. Currently, Auric Radiation Control is not stable, but Emir Klamsky's Research Team is researching this.
Origin of M.I.D.A.S.
Head of M.I.D.A.S. Research is Emir Klamsky, with Labs in Alaska, Vermont, and California. So far, her team is the only one to successfully contain Auric Radiation.
Theft of M.I.D.A.S. and the 3 Incidents
The Story of Front Mission 3 starts when M.I.D.A.S. was stolen from the Alaskan Labs by OCU Japan.
Several Months have passed after the theft. It was During those Months that the JDF was busy using M.I.D.A.S. to make a copy of their own.
- The First Incident.
- Location: Yokosuka Base, Japan

Much of the underground Infrastructure was destroyed in an explosion that left the shape of a Perfect Sphere in its wake. It was a Failed Copy of M.I.D.A.S that caused this destruction. The consequences of this Incident brought the Attention of the OCU which demanded the transfer of M.I.D.A.S. or be Isolated from the OCU for acting on it's own.

Realizing that Defeat was Inevitable in the hands of the Philipine Rebels, who were being backed by the DHZ Government, Commander Semaun Forsyth of the OCU Taal Navy Base gave unauthorized orders to use M.I.D.A.S. to destroy the Rebel Forces and the DHZ Invasion Fleet that was sent in to back them up. In one Instant, the DHZ Invasion Fleet was Eradicated and much of the city of Batangas..... disappeared without a trace. Ironically, this M.I.D.A.S. was a Successful Copy.
