Modern Lviv coat of arms was adopted on July 5 1990 by Lviv city council.
History
First time image of leo happens in 13th century on seal of duches Andriy and Lev II of the Ruthenian duchy of Halych-Volynia. The oldest city seal is from 1359.
Historical coat of arms featuring the Virtuti Militari medal awarded to the city after the Polish-Bolshevik War
Poland period coat of arms was adopted in 1526 by king Sizigmund of Poland.
Since 1586 city got right to use Pope coat of arms, which was adopted as Lviv coat of arms on 6 November 1789 by Austrian emperor Josef II.
Soviet period coat of arms was adopted in 1967.
