- 1 Palestine: "State of Palestine" was declared 1988 and recognized by a series of Arab and Muslim countries, see also: proposals for a Palestinian state and Palestinian territories. Gaza Strip, West Bank, Israel include country articles about areas in the Palestine region.
- 2 Republic of China (Taiwan): see Political status of Taiwan
- 3 Scotland: Note that 1. Politics of the United Kingdom contains a lot of content that is relevant to Scotland and 2. Legally, Scotland is not a country but the Scottish Parliament has significant powers, so Scotland is listed separately.
