Lillian Hong
Lillian Hong is a colorful community activist and perennial candidate for the office of Honolulu Mayor. Hong has run for the Honolulu Mayor's office four times – in 1994, 1996, 2000, and 2004.
The highest amount of votes she received was 1502 in the 1996 Mayor's race, which she lost to Mayor Jeremy Harris. In the recent 2004 Primary Election, Hong received 1,095 votes, finishing fourth in a field of 10 candidates, behind former Mayor Frank Fasi.
Often the butt of local political jokes, Hong has also run unsuccessfully for City Council and the Neighborhood Board.
Hong is well known in Honolulu for her colorful political commentary on the Olelo public access channel. Hong's program on Olelo has been on air since 1997 and discusses community issues, including commentary about the local City Council and Hong's own candidacy for Honolulu Mayor. Hong's first show in August 1997 featured special guest, former Hawaii Governor Ben Cayetano.
Hong's daughter, Jennifer Lin Hong, was crowned Miss Chinatown in 1999.
