Lerner Stores
Lerner Stores sells women's clothing. It is considered down-market, particularly compared to more expensive stores including its former parent The Limited.
It was founded by Joseph Jay Lerner in 1907 in New York City. Michael, Charles and Samuel Lerner were all involved in the company.
From the 1960s it was controlled by Meshulam Riklis through his Rapid-American holding company, which controlled the McCrory Stores five and dime, with which it was often co-located.
In 1985 its 798 stores were purchased by The Limited. It was sold in 2002 as Lerner New York/New York & Company.
Brylane, the former Lane Bryant uses the Lerner trademark for catalog sales.
Alan Jay Lerner is the son of founder Joseph Jay Lerner.
