Lea and Tabea Block

Conjoined twins Lea and Tabea Block from Legmo, Germany were attached at the head and shared one brain. They were brought to Johns Hopkins Childrens Center in Baltimore, Maryland to be separated. The operation, lead by Dr. Benjamin Carson, Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, took place on the afternoon of September 16, 2004. Tabea died minutes after being separated from Lea. After the operation, Lea was in critical but stable condition and later recovered. She is on her way to becoming an independent, healthy individual.
