Le Délit français
Le Délit français, also simply known as Le Délit, is an independent francophone newspaper on the McGill University campus, in Montreal, Quebec. It is a sister publication to the English-language McGill Daily and, as such, is published by the Daily Publications Society (DPS). In accordance with the Constitution of the DPS, the newspaper is run exclusively by McGill students.
Le Délit was created in 1977 to provide a voice for francophone students at McGill University, an English-speaking institution. As of Fall 2003, 19.6% of the student body at McGill had declared French as their mother-tongue.
In its early days, the newspaper was called Le McGill Daily français but the name was soon changed to Le Délit, owing to an evident play-on-words. In French, the word délit actually means offense or misdemeanor.
Le Délit is published every Tuesday, during the Fall and Winter terms.
