Lazer Guided Melodies
Lazer Guided Melodies is the first Spiritualized album, released in March 1992. The album builds on Jason Pierce's contributions to the final Spacemen 3 album, Recurring, further refining his approach to song craft in creating complex, intricate pieces from simple, repetitive phrases. Particular highlights are the sweet lullaby of "You Know It's True", the chiming guitars of "If I Were With Her Now" (used in a Toffee Crisp advert in the nineties), "Take Your Time" and "Shine A Light", both Spiritualized concert staples to this day, and the closing "200 Bars", in which keyboard player Kate Radley counts up the bars as the song progresses. The UK CD edition of the album segues the twelve songs together into four tracks, mimicking the vinyl listening experience.
