Laure Waridel
Laure Waridel (born in 1973 at Chesalles-sur-Oron, near Vevey, Switzerland) is the co-founder of Équiterre (a non-profit organisation based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, promoting fair trade, energy conservation and ecological and socially just choices), a writer, environmentalist, social activist and radio commentator.
Waridel's family left Switzerland and moved to Mont Saint-Grégoire, Quebec, when she was two. Her family ran a dairy farm in Quebec.
Waridel studied sociology at McGill University, and has an MA in environmental studies from the University of Victoria, in Victoria, British Columbia. She was named as one of 25 Canadian personalities who are making a difference by Maclean's Magazine.
Waridel defended Gil Courtemanche's novel Un dimanche à la piscine à Kigali in the French version of Canada Reads, broadcast on Radio-Canada in 2004. This novel eventually won the competition.
