Lau v. Nichols
This 1974 civil rights case was brought on by non-English speaking Chinese students living in San Francisco. The students claimed that they where not receiving special help in school due to their inability to speak English, help Title VI of Civil Rights Act granted them. The students claimed that only 1,700 out of 35,000 Chinese students unable to speak English where receiving assistance in school. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the students, thus expanding the rights of "Limited English Proficient" students around the nation.
