Lau Ching-Wan

(Redirected from Lau Cheng Wan)

Sean Lau Ching-Wan (劉青雲, pinyin: Liú Qīngyún;) (born February 16, 1964) is a Hong Kong film and television actor who is cast in many Hong Kong films in the 1990s and beyond.

Lau was born in Guangdong province of China. He joined the TVB acting classes in 1983 and made his first appearance on TV the following year with TV drama Draw Out the Rainbow. Dark-skinned with no matinee-star look, he struggled to be cast until in the immensely popular stock market drama The Greed of Man (1992) when he acted opposite to Adam Cheng.

His wife, former Miss Hong Kong Amy Kwok, also works as a television actress.

Filmography

He made his debut in film in 1986 and since then has been cast in an increasingly wide number of roles. Amongst his more memorable roles include acting opposite Anita Yuen as a down-and-out musician in C'est la vie, mon cherie (1993) and in a number of cop thrillers, such as Full Alert (1997), The Longest Nite (1998) and Running on Time (1999). He has proven himself to be one of Hong Kong's most versatile actors, handling comedy roles with aplomb, as La Brassiere (2001) and Three of a Kind (2004).

Awards

He has won Best Actor in the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards (in 1997 and 2001) and Golden Bauhinia Awards (in 1999).
