According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 93.3 km² (36.0 mi²). 82.0 km² (31.7 mi²) of it is land and 11.3 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 12.08% water.
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,468 people, 1,005 households, and 756 families residing in the township. The population density is 30.1/km² (77.9/mi²). There are 1,689 housing units at an average density of 20.6/km² (53.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.61% White, 0.12% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,005 households out of which 28.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% are non-families. 20.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
