L'mur-Kathulos

(Redirected from LÂ’mur-Kathulos)

L'mur-Kathulos is a fictional character from the Cthulhu Mythos of H. P. Lovecraft's short stories. The name is a crude pun on two separate entities: Lemuria and Cthulhu.

Lemuria is a continent that sank into the sea millions of years before classical civilization began. It is akin to Hyperborea and Valusia. Cthulhu is an alien deity who lies dead/sleeping/imprisoned in his city of R'lyeh, which also sank beneath the atlantic ocean. The juxtaposition of these names is supposed to convey the idea of an inconceivable god in a continent under the sea that will rise and subjugate the human race.
