Caterpie (キャタピー Kyatapī) is a basic bug-type Pokémon that evolves into Metapod at level 7 and Butterfree at level 10. Caterpie has suction cups on its feet that enable it to climb trees, where it camouflages itself among leaves of the same color as its body while foraging; the eye-like patterns on its forehead are intended to scare off enemies, and when that fails, touching Caterpie's horns will cause it to release a horrible stench to protect itself.
