Klaus Kleinfeld
Klaus Christian Kleinfeld (born 1957 in Bremen, Germany) is a German manager and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Munich-based Siemens AG since January 2005.
Kleinfeld earned a Master's degree in Business Administration/Economics from the University of Goettingen, Germany, in 1982, followed by a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Wuerzburg, Germany in 1992. He started his business career at the pharmaceutical company Ciba-Geigy (today part of Novartis) in Basel, Switzerland, in 1986. Kleinfeld works for Siemens since 1987. He established and led the Siemens Management Consulting Group (SMC) and he was Executive Vice President of the Siemens AG Medical Engineering Group. In January 2001 he became Chief Operating Officer for Siemens U.S.A., in 2002 he was appointed CEO of the US-branch and member of the Siemens AG management board. In 2005 he succeeded Heinrich von Pierer as CEO of the corporate group.
Kleinfeld is a member of the Board of Directors of Alcoa Inc. and he also serves as a director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He is married and has two daughters. He is described as engaged and spirited manager and good communicator.
