Kizhi
Kizhi is an island on Onego lake (Karelia, Russia) with a beautiful ensemble of wooden churches, chapels and houses. Some of these buildings were originally constructed in Kizhi, some (the minor ones) were transported there. A museum of Russian wooden architecture was created there.
The Kizhi island is about 7km long and 0,5km width. It is surrounden with a multiply (about 5000) other islands, mostly very small – some of them are about 2x2 meters. But there also a large ones too, some are 35km long.
Kizhi ensemble is under UNESCO protection.
