Kirishi
Kirishi is a city in the Leningrad Oblast of Russia, on the right bank of the Volkhov River, 115 km south-east of St. Petersburg. Population (as of 2001): 55,700.
The settlement of Kirishi was first documentally mentioned in 1693. However, the village was completely destroyed during in 1943 the Second World War. It was rebuilt in 1960 together with the construction of an oil-processing plant, and obtained the status of the city in 1965.
The name of the city originates from the Kirisha River (previously Kiresha), a tributary of the Volkhov.
