Dülmen is a city in the district Coesfeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is accessed by the A43 and railway stations linking with the lines of Essen – Wanne Eickel – Münster with the Köln-Mindener Eisenbahn and Dortmund – Gronau with the Dortmund-Gronau-Enscheder Eisenbahn. The nearest airport is the Münster-Osnabrück Airport in Greven.

  • Rorup – population: 2,375 (2004), the area was founded in 1050. The area became a district on 1974 except for Lette and Darup.

History

The place was first mentioned ad Dulmenni in 889. The city becan using the present name since April 11, 1131. 90% of the city was destroyed in World War II. After the War, the city was rebuilt. In 1973, the population reached 20,000. In 1975, Rorup, Merfeld, Hiddingsel, Buldern, Hausdülmen and Kirchspiel Dülmen became part of Dülmen.
