The constituency has an electorate of 58,354 and at present is served by 3 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is proportional representation.
Controversiall at the last general election, Alan Dukes, the former leader of Fine Gael and Cabinet Minister, lost his Dáil seat. It was just another loss on a day which saw the Fine Gael Party lose many of its brightest and best TDs.
