Kildare North
The Kildare North parliamentary constituency spans the entire area of the northern half of the Leinster county of Kildare, taking in the towns of Maynooth, Celbridge and many other areas. The constituency has an electorate of 60,094 and at present is served by 3 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is proportional representation.
The former most high profile TD in the constituency is Charlie McCreevy, the former Minister for Finance and current European Commissioner. He resigned his seat at the end of 2004 and a by-election was held on March 11, 2005.
Kildare North is unique by being the only constituency in the country without any TD's from the governing Fianna Fail party.
