Kiffa beads
Kiffa beads are rare powderglass beads named after the Mauritanian city of Kiffa, where French ethnologist R.Mauny documented them first in 1949. Kiffa beads can be traced back almost 1,000 years
The "kiffa" process involves crushing glass and mixing it with human saliva to create a "core". Further crushed glass in applied in complex, kaleidoscopic patterns before the beads are fired in a tin can or pottery sherd over hot coals.
