The Kangaroo Defense, or Keres Defense, is a chess opening characterized by the opening moves 1. d4 e6 2. c4 Bb4+ (in algebraic notation). White's responses are usually 3.Nc3, 3.Nd2 or 3.Bd2. Black generally then captures the interposing piece, or plays 3...Qe7, 3...c5, 3...a5, or 3...f5. The game often transposes to a Dutch Defense, a Nimzo-Indian or a Bogo-Indian.
