Kazuo kiriyama

Kazuo Kiriyama is a character in the best-selling Japanese novel Battle Royale. And is also a character in the movie with the same name (there, acted by Masanobu Ando).

In the movie, Kiriyama is introduced as the pure-evil psychopathic transfer student, who signed up as a volunteer for the Battle Royale program.

In the novel however, we learn the true meaning to his behavior. Having suffered from a head injury while in his mother's womb, he have lost the ability to feel feelings. Feelings like remorse, guilt and fear, and thus he has a great problem determing what things are right and wrong, and also understanding the emotions of the other students.

While sitting on a rock near the sea on the Battle Royale island, wondering what to do. He grabs a coin from his pocket and tosses it into the air to make a decision whenever he should fight the program itself, or participate in the game.
