Sanchin
Sanchin is a karate kata of definite Chinese origin. The name can be interpreted as meaning three encounters, or three deaths. The kata uses one stance, Sanchin Dachi and is done with deep, controlled breathing. Inhalation and exhalation are performed in unison with the various movements. In the most commonly taught versions, emphasis is placed on the tension of the practicioners' muscles, and movement of the body as a solid, stable unit. Many styles of karate have adopted this kata, and it is performed with both open and closed fists.
