Karbala Governorate

Karbala province, or Al Karbala province, is a province in the nation of Iraq. The capital is the city of Karbala. Karbala is a holy city for Shi'ite Muslims, and houses the shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), a heavily revered figure in Shi'ite Islam. Shi'ite Muslim pilgrims from Iran, to Afghanistan to Pakistan flood into the city to visit the shrine.
