Kalevi Aho
Kalevi Aho (born 9 March 1949 in Forssa, Finland) is a Finnish composer. He first came to fame in the 1970s with his neo-classical work but, over the next decade, moved onto modernist and post-modernist work. He has, to date, composed 11 symphonies as well as several sonatas and string quartets. In terms of his approach to work he has been compared to Gustav Mahler – his early work may also be seen as distinctly Dmitri Shostakovich influenced.
