Kaldor City
Kaldor City is a major human city of the future mentioned in the Chris Boucher-penned Doctor Who serial The Robots of Death. It is also the setting and title of a series of audio plays produced by Magic Bullet Productions and set in the universe of that serial, the Blake's 7 episode Weapon and his Doctor Who novel Corpse Marker.
The plays feature a cast headed by Paul Darrow, Scott Fredericks and the late Russell Hunter, with, among others, David Baillie, David Collings, Philip Madoc, Peter Miles and Gregory de Polnay, the plays are produced by Alan Stevens, with sound design, effects and music by Alistair Lock, and co-directed by both Stevens and Lock. The series has the full approval and written permission of Chris Boucher.
The series consists of "an intelligent and surreal series of adventures set on a corrupt world governed by an all-powerful Company, where the rich scheme in mansions filled with robot slaves, the poor scrabble for survival in the Sewerpits, the Security forces are out of control and terrorism is a daily fact of life"[1]. The first three CDs can be heard on their own as standalone stories, but the final three form a serial, and should be listened to in order.
At present there are six Kaldor City CDs: "Occam's Razor" by Alan Stevens and Jim Smith, "Death's Head" by Chris Boucher, "Hidden Persuaders" by Jim Smith and Fiona Moore, "Taren Capel" by Alan Stevens, "Checkmate" by Alan Stevens, and "Storm Mine" by Daniel O'Mahony. Additionally, the CD "The Actor Speaks: Paul Darrow," produced by MJTV, features a 20-minute play set in the Kaldor City universe, featuring Paul Darrow and Peter Miles, entitled "The Prisoner" and written by Alan Stevens and Fiona Moore.
