Kajang

(Redirected from Kajang-Sungai Chua)

Kajang (population 189,400 (2001)) is a town in the state of Selangor, Malaysia (2.98 degrees N, 101.77 degrees E). It is located about 20 km to the south of Kuala Lumpur.

Kajang is famous for its sate (alternate spelling satay), a form of skewered barbequed meat. One university located near Kajang is Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten). Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia), in nearby Bangi, is one of the largest national universities.

Lt Adnan Saidi, the hero of Battle of Singapore in Bukit Chandu during WWII was born here in Sungai Ramal.

History

  • 1709 – settlements in Kajang was first established.
  • 1874 – town started after Selangor civil war.
