"Kai" has several meanings.

Words

• Kai is a Scandinavian name, in common use in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, and Sweden; it comes from the Lating "Gaius", meaning "earth". In German and Dutch, it means "quay," but the name is not believed to be related to this meaning.
