Kababir
A mixed neighbourhood of Jews and Ahmadi arabs in Haifa. The Ahmedis declare themselves as the true representatives of Islam at present. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was founded in the 19th century. originating in India. They settled in Kababir from Nieleen near Jerusalem in the 19th century. In 1931 they built the first mosque on mount carmel, named probably after the Kabris plant. In the 1980's they completed a larger grand mosque with two white minaretes standing 34 meters tall, which dominate the low-rise skyline of the residential neighbourhoods on the ridges nearby. Their co-existance is part of the religious mosaic of Haifa, with Druze, Ahmadi's, Jews, Christians, Bahai, Muslims and others all living side by side peacefully in the city.
